Portland
So far, I'm unimpressed with this city. Maybe because it's 4:36am my time as I type this. The flight was late. I was served less soda than I would have been in Coach class. The movie, Casino Royale, was horrible. The flight was cold. My feet were numb. The rental car guy was clueless - but my Audi A4 is nice. The drivers are crazy. The police are nice. My hotel room is on the second floor (yuck) but I have a fireplace (yippie). And now I'm in bed, connected to the wireless network at the hotel.

Did you catch that? The police? How would I know that? Well, at 1am (local time), you can imagine I only wanted my bed. The GPS system took me through some awful residential area to get to the hotel. I have never seen so many 20 mph speed zones in my life. Not 25, 20. That's stupid. I was trying to follow the GPS which had me turning at every other intersection when the flashing lights appeared. The guy asked for the usual. So, I handed him the rental car slip. He asked if I had just arrived, and I said yes. Told him I was from Jersey. I was certainly not very nice, quite cranky, actually (can you tell). He explained that I was doing 30 in a 20. He said I must have realized it because I slowed down when I saw the second sign. He wondered where I was going and I simply said "I don't know" and pointed to the GPS and said that it was some Residence Inn. He warned me to watch my speed and told me that I probably didn't want to get a speeding ticket so soon after landing. He handed me back my license and I was on my way. I hate Portland.

So, now I'm going to bed. It's now 4:41am (ET) and I need to wake up around 6:30 (PT). I guess that's just under 5 hours of sleep. Happy Friday!
