A Meet-The-Parents Weekend
This past weekend was a non-stamping weekend. I'm afraid to say, I really enjoyed it. It was nice to have a break from the pressure of hosting a stamping event. I love them, but I do stress.
So, based upon the title of this post, I guess you can guess what we did this weekend! I went to Mike's on Friday night to catch up on The Office (I can't record it at my house because I'm recording other shows during that time). Well, luckily I made it through the office, but fell asleep about 5 minutes after that - before 9pm. Unfortunately, neither one of us woke up until about 3am!!! All of last week's partying caught up with us "old folks"!
So, Saturday I was on a mission. I had to drive up to the Cherry Hill Mall in the morning then set off to find McMillian's Bakery - known for there cream-filled donuts! These were a topic of conversation a few weeks back in Virginia. They have a reputation. I drove around for about 30 minutes before locating them near the corner of Cuthbert and Haddon Ave in Collingswood. I was victorious. I picked up 9 of the delicious confections. Mike and I then headed over to his parents house for lunch. We brought them sandwiches and donuts for lunch. We had an enjoyable visit. I then rushed home to start making dinner. Deciding to make an all-day event out of "meeting the parents", I invited my parents and Mike over for Chicken Pot Pie - click here for my wordy recipe. Mike requested potoates, so I threw in 3 good-sized potatoes. I wasn't happy with the result. It cooked plenty long, but I think the potatoes broke down and made the pot pie a bit gritty. I even waited and threw the potatoes in later knowing they'd cook up pretty fast. Everyone enjoyed it, but I know what my favorite is. My parents enjoyed meeting Mike. Okay, now all of that meeting is over - bring on Thanksgiving and the rest of the extended family!
Sunday was relaxing. Went to church. Had lunch with my family (including Ed, Brooke, and Gram). Then hung out with Mike and Jess. They introduced me to Sam's Club. Wow! What a culinary delight! There were TONS of samples. Mike wanted to take me there to encourage me to keep the Holiday Party simple. He's really thinking of me. You know me, I'd love to make TONS of home-made stuff. But, in reality that's just not logical. So, I'm going to do some baking, and maybe a chocolate fondue, but then suppliment it with some of those hot-out-of-the-oven, easy-to-bake appetizers. I had a spinnach and feta thing yesterday - it was FABULOUS and I don't even like spinnach or feta!!! I also priced TVs. Yes, I'm going overboard. Remember how my eVite said "Wii" games? Well, I'm turning the classroom into a Wii game room for the party. What's the classroom missing? A flat-screen TV! Not for long! We then went to Chili's for dinner. Mike and I again fell asleep on the couch watching tv. How boring are we? Luckily I woke up at 9:15 and went home and still got plenty of sleep.
