Crazy Recruiters
Good grief! When it rains, it pours. I think I said that a week or so ago. Anyway, let me start at the beginning of my day. Or, maybe I'll start with yesterday. So, I think I'm in good shape for the yard sale. I have officially looked in every box, in every corner of my house. I've taken two car loads and one Murano load of crap to my parents house. They may be coming up tonight for a final load. And you never know what I might find once all of that is cleared out.
So, I took the day off from yard sale prep. If I do no more, I've done a great job. Mom's already spent a bundle and has hardly made a dent. I can't believe how much stuff I pulled out. There's definitely a noticeable difference in the basement. There's also a noticeable difference in the small room on my second floor. Next step - sorting through clothing.
So, since I was taking the day off, I was counting on the UPS man to be at my house around noon. This was the order I really wanted yesterday. Well, because of my unemployment I lost track of days. It didn't come yesterday. It was scheduled for today. Anyway...I had two suits to return to Lane Bryant (you know how I shop). I had bought three for my casino interview last week. I actually only ended up wearing the jacket. I wanted my cash back. I found BARGAINS. I wanted a new pair of jeans. I had a coupon for $25 off a $50 purchase. So, they'd be 1/2 off. When I went in the store, all "bottoms" were $20 off. So, the jeans I found for $39.50 were on sale for $19.50 then came down to about $11.18 with my coupon. I bought two pair of jeans and a snazzy skirt. How 'bout them bargains?
I was hoping to see a box from UPS on my front porch when I got home around 11:45. No such luck. So I putzed around the house. Oh, a software company called about setting up more interviews. The same one I talked with back in July and August. I'm probably not all that interested because it would involve travel, but I'm not quite ready to shut the door on them. I was still waiting for the casino to make is "midweek" call. Every time I heard a door shut or a call slow down, I raced to the door to see if it was UPS. Finally around 3pm I decided to check the package progress. It said "delivered". What?!?!!?!? I looked out the front door - nothing. I looked out the back door - nothing. Grrrr.. So, I opened the front door and found the package leaning up against the front wall - out of sight of the window in my door. AAGGGHHH!!! It had been delivered at 12:45. I'd lost over two hours of precious stamping time! I quickly ripped the box apart to start working on my next project. I heard that I received a few e-mails, but chose to ignore them.
Around 4:10 I decided it was time for a break. I came back to my computer and saw that I had seven new e-mail! I haven't gotten that many in ages. Four were from companies wanting to interview me! Then I checked my cell phone - I never hear the stupid thing. I had two voice messages. I'd only been in the craft room for an hour, how did I miss all of this?!?!?! Well, as I was listening to my first voice mail, the casino called! And, it was just as I had expected...the HR recruiter had been in South America and we needed to wait for him to return and talk to me. He asked me the stupid questions and the question I always dread - salary requirements. I know my salary requirements are high. But, he asked if they were negotiable, and he said yes. He said he thought they wanted to move quickly and hopefully I should hear something in the next week. I may have to go back for another interview. As I was hanging up the phone Julie called. She wanted to meet up for my stamping stuff. So, I flew out the door for that, but not before I read the rest of my e-mail quickly. I needed to be home before 6 to call back someone.
So, the rest of the e-mail were as follows:
- recruiter from Deloitte - didn't even respond. It requires travel.
- recruiter from the software company I mentioned earlier - confirming my interview for 3pm on Monday.
- Director of Network Systems from a hospital - staying late at work, hoping I'd call.
- some idiot who wants me to work in Memphis - I deleted it.
I think that was it. The rest weren't from companies wanting to hire me.
So, now I have a second interview lined up for Monday morning in Cherry Hill with the Director of Network Services and the CIO of a hospital. I already know they can't pay me what I want. But, we'll see what they have to offer. It's an interesting position. But, so is the casino. I've already told the hospital that I don't want to start until October 1st and he was cool with that. So, we'll see how this plays out. Stay tuned!
And, if you're in S Jersey on Saturday - stop by mom and dad's for the yard sale. It's gonna be GOOD!
