Wine
What a fun evening we had! I totally recommend it to anyone! So, the evening started off interesting. I was driving down 42 around 4:20 on my way to meet Mike at Deptford. If you watched the news last night, you know what was happening on 42 around 4:20 last night. I saw LOTS of police cars racing north. I though, "great, an accident, we'll never make it to the class in time". Mike and I were meeting around 4:45 so I had about 20 minutes to kill. I went shopping!!! Apparently, so did Mike. We got on 42 and saw signs about taking the Ben Franklin because there was an accident on the Walt Whitman - I knew it!!! We were planning to take the Ben Franklin anyway. Well, while we were passing the Walt Whitman, there was a HUGE line of marked and unmarked police cars and SUVs. Strange for an accident. Then I noticed the cops were putting on bullet proof vests. I said, that's no accident!!! I called mom, and sure enough, she said there was a man, a woman, a baby, and a gun! How exciting!
Okay, enough about that. We actually got to class early after all of that. We met Brian, the instructor. He seemed very fun. Then the strangest thing happened...he called me by name and mentioned he'd read my post. I though, what post? I didn't post anything on the wine school website. He said, "Din's World, right?" Well, I guess he found this blog because I linked to the wine school. So, Brian, are you reading this?!?!!? We had SO much fun. I learned a lot. Mike enjoyed it too. We've already signed up for our next class in May - The BBQ and Wine Pairing Class. There are quite a few interesting-sounding classes. And, if they're half as interesting and fun as last night, we'll be going back for more!
So, my world is small. Most of you know this by now. So, there was a couple that kept talking about being from Scranton and opening a wine bar up there. Our "lake house" is just outside of Scranton, so of course I inquired. The wine bar opens in April. I can't wait to check it out. But, as we were chatting we learned that her family and my family have houses on the same lake. While that may not seem that amazing, most people who live 5 minutes away from the lake don't even know it's there. Small world! Her family had been up there for years - her parents met there. I've heard that about other people.
Dinner at Red Sky was also fabulous. I had a jumbo lump crab cake and lobster mashed potatoes. Actually, Mike and I both did. He had a Yuengling. I attempted to pair my dish with wine. I can honestly say that I've never ordered a glass of white wine at a restaurant. I'm more of a fan of reds. But, I thought a Sauvingon Blanc would go well with the crab cake and mashed potatoes. Brian, if you're reading this, is that what you would have suggested??? I liked it and I guess that's all that matters.
